I agree. I would actually be all for the death penalty if we could be 100% sure that anyone executed was actually guilty. And certainly, if someone I love was murdered, I would have no sympathy for the person who did it and would absolutely want them dead. But the fact is, it doesn't seem like we can be 100% sure that we are executing the right person. I think we have a good criminal justice system, for the most part, but I'm not sure it's good enough to trust it to decide if people should be executed. I certainly wouldn't want to put my life in the hands of twelve people who have already said they don't have any issues with imposing the death penalty. If we execute one innocent person, that's too many.

Yeah, that's how I try to think of it. Would it be ok, if I was one of the ones who slipped through the cracks? The answer, of course, is fuck no!
Maybe the DAs that destroy DNA evidence so it can't be used should go on Death Row.
Wouldn't a small-gov't conservative tend to be wary of empowering the State to take the lives of citizens?
Being God is a big job (i.e., "it's hard work!"), and if the gov't is so bad at schooling, preserving the environment, and providing a social safety net (and would utterly destroy us if it provided single-payer healthcare), who in their right mind would allow this slobbering fool with a speech defect and a shaking hand to say, "duhh, dis one must die!"
