KSK

I have mixed feelings about the guys over at Kissing Suzy Kolber. On the one hand they're homophobic and misogynistic, on the other hand they're funny as hell, case in point this post -

Dear NFL Defenders,

You see this?

That’s a crisp, clean $20 bill. And it can be yours. All yours. All you have to do is one very simple thing: take out the knees of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, shown here with knees that are far too functional for my taste.

...

This is not a joke. If you successfully take out Brady’s knees, I will really send you a $20 bill. American. Not counterfeit. Lest you think $20 isn’t a lot of money, consider what you can buy with $20:

-Many peanuts
-Bottle of Popov
-Blowjob (inner city)
-1/10th of a blowjob (suburbs)
-Top shelf KSK merchandise
-Two Cosi sandwiches
-Two months of Netflix
-Multiple discount rack DVD’s of fine films like “Jack the Bear”, “The Avengers”, and “A Fine Mess”
-100% syrup Squishie

There's plenty more where that came from. You've got to go, just to see the examples he's put up of other athletes' knees breaking.

Agreed. When they are funny they are fucking hilarious, but it's hit and miss.

The risk/reward is generally worth it. I check it all the time, and can pretty much tell ata glance whether I'm going to partake and enjoy, or pass.

For instance, I would never normally direct Mrs F over there, as it can be like Maxim on steroids, but I did have her read this. Big Daddy Drew's towel misadventure was probably the funniest thing I've read all year. And she agreed. I was literally crying with laughter watching her read it.

Ha!

I pointed my wife to that post, and wound up getting the Face/Butt towel for our second anniversary this past June.

Who rocks? I do.

Now, funny or not funny we can argue, but misogynistic and homophobic? No. That's shtick.

Maybe some of it, but I have a hard time believing it's all schtick. And some would argue that perpetuating that kind of thing is harmful whether schtick or not. I'm kind of in the middle on that one. But I see and hear so much homophobia in sports culture that I just take it at face value.

There's a local sports talk show here that I listen to most every day. The guys are interesting and funny. But they have a serious case of homophobia and of course they're both wingers. Fortunately they almost never discuss politics - if they did, I couldn't listen. They have the Brokeback "I don't know how to quit you" quote on a cart and they play it at the merest whiff of man-love. They think it's funny, not because it's schtick, but because they think calling each other gay is funny, like kids do when they're in elementary school.

Anyway, that's the vibe I get from some of the posts at KSK. Maybe they're more self-aware than that. I'll keep an eye open for it.

Yes, that is a valid issue.

I don't mean to pooh-pooh the power of words argument, one which all current and former Shakers are quite familiar with.

But sometimes a "suck my dick and make me a sandwich" joke is just that, a joke.

That's all I'm saying. When I read stuff like KSK and With Leather, I want the obnoxious and the funny.

When I read some wingnut blogger talks about women in the workplace this, control the womb that, feminists are the downfall of the world, etc., then we talk misogyny.
