What the fuck is this 'heart' crap?

Ok, so a long time ago, someone came up with the idea to replace the word 'love' with a big red heart for bumper stickers and t-shirts and stuff, which is fine, that definitely makes for a better visual representation than the words would. But recently, I'm seeing and hearing more and more people now replacing the big red heart with the actual word 'heart'. So, instead of saying, "I love ...", they say "I heart ...." What the fuck is that about? This doesn't make any sense to me, and frankly, I don't like it.

  1. I think it's supposed to be ironic.

But really it just makes them sound stupid.

  4. Blame the film I (Heart) Huckabees. Great film, but I had never heard of this "heart" rubbish before it came out.

  6. Could be a cannibalistic thing? I heart = I want to eat your heart.

  7. I'm not sure exactly how you got from "I heart" to "I want to eat your heart," Rob, but I am sure that I don't want to know.

  8. It is ironic - and it was around long before I Heart Huckabees. I used to say it sarcastically back in high school, when those I Heart My [Insert Dog Breed Here] bumper stickers were popular, which I hated. Faced with, for example, some preppy shit-for-brains asking me if I wanted to sign up for the pep rally, clearly not understanding that six layers of black goth gear was meant to signal disinterest in, well, everything, especially pep rallies, I'd reply drolly, "Oh sure - I heart pep rallies," then walk away.

    LOL!!!!!!

Sister, from one ex-goth to another: I heart you. Even though that sounds stupid.

Frankly, whats worse I think than the ridiculous "I heart..." business is people who can't be bothered to spell shit out when they're writing online. Whole sentences made up of chat-speak like "Well, OTOH the GWOT is str8t up the bomb, IMHO." How fucking hard is it to actually type out "in my opinion..."?

  11. I had another post a while back about how much I hate stupid abbreviations.

But heart is longer to type than love, so I don't know how that could be the excuse for this.

  12. I take it that you don't "heart" that expression much eh? Heh heh!

  17. What is with all this ex-goth nonsense? Once a goth, always a goth at heart.
