Electoral compass

I ran across this at Chosha's blog. There are a lot of these things floating around, but this one was quick and easy, and the questions covered a nice range of subjects. In addition to plotting you on the familiar social/economic graph, you can compare your answers to each question with each candidate's answers as derived from their stated positions, and link to the quotes and other evidence used to support it.

I was a little surprised that by their reckoning, Clinton is farther to the economic left than either Edwards or Obama. I was not surprised that I ended up as a socialist libertine.

I'm closest to Barack Obama. Needless to say, I'm furthest from Fred Thompson.

I got the same results as michelline. I thought I was an Edwards man though

I was just above Obama, slightly to the right of you.

I ended up where I always end up, socially liberal (about the same point as Edwards) and economically moderate (just to the right of the centerline).

What is interesting is this shows what many pundits have pointed out, there isn't a huge difference among the Democratic candidates (though there is a pretty big difference in the Republicans).

I didn't take this particular version of the test, but I usually score further out into the left/liberal quadrant than any of the candidates depicted (and probably moreso than most of you).

The interesting thing about this chart is that, despite the attempt to go "two-dimensional" you usually still see people clustering in our quadrant or the nut-job quadrant. All those people who say they're "fiscally conservative but socially liberal"? They don't seem to crop up so much.

I came out right on Obama. From afar (Australia) he does seem the best of the candidates. As a general point I think the quality of the Democrat candidates is way better than the Republicans. Still, being an idiot didn't stand in the way of your current President.

I also (surprisingly) came out with Obama as the result. I expected to be farther out on the left... but then again, I have some less-than-typical views on some issues...
