I don't care how many cameras there are

Has anyone else noticed lately that every time there's an article or announcement for a new upcoming show, particularly if it's a comedy, they feel compelled to mention that it's single camera or multiple camera? Am I the only one who doesn't give a shit how many cameras there are? Just make an entertaining show, use however many cameras you need. Why did this start becoming important information for the viewer?

Actually, I had not noticed that. Sounds like a weird thing to hype.

I've seen it a lot in the last year or so. I wouldn't say they're hyping it exactly, it's just now a default part of the show description, and I have no idea why.

it's single camera or multiple camera

It does matter at least somewhat. Multiple camera shows have the invisible wall so that the show is seen similar to as if it was on-stage. Almost all multiple camera shows are situational comedies like Everybody Loves Raymond or stretching back - Happy Days. Single Camera are shot like most (all?) movies where the you can seen a scene from a 360 degree angle, like The Office or almost all dramas. I am trying to think of a drama shot multi-camera but can't.

Multi vs. single won't tell you if it good or not but it is descriptive of what you will see. You might even have a preference for one method or the other though most people may not even realize it.

That's all interesting stuff, VMH. But still, I don't care how many cameras they use, as long as they make a good show. But even if I did care because of the differences you mention, most people don't know that stuff so it wouldn't matter to them.

Second VMH.

Yes, you're correct that the the only thing that matters is the quality of the show, in the long run.

The camera description is just that. Not a brag or a marketing thing, just purely descriptive of the style.
