AP Poll: Approval of Bush's handling of Iraq reaches low point

This isn't news, this happens every time they do a new poll. What someone should be reporting on is what the fuck these people see differently now than they did last year.

While I do love a poll that takes into account Bush's arrogance, this part of the story grates on me: "...the president's confidence is seen as arrogance by a growing number."

It's as if confidence is the reality and arrogance is merely the perception.

How about "the president's arrogance is seen as confidence by a decreasing number"? Statistically, it says the same thing, but my, what a difference in interpretation.

I certainly never mistook his arrogance for confidence! Referring to it as arrogance perceived as confidence makes more sense to me and heck, seems more honest. After all, confidence doesn't limit itself to always insisting you're right, putting yourself above others, and unwilling to look at alternatives.

I think he's both confident and arrogant, and I think the two can go together.

I've had the chance to ask two of my friends this very question in the past week. For both of them, there was no epiphany, no climactic "aha" moment, it was a very slow process during which it finally dawned on them that they had bee lied to. One likened it to his feelings about Rafael Palmiero--you want so much to believe it isn't true, but you finally can't ignore the evidence in front of your own eyes.
