REPENT AMERICA - CALLING A NATION IN REBELLION TOWARD GOD TO REPENTANCE

I saw this disgusting press release from some sleazy extremist religous organization around quite a bit yesterday, and it makes me wonder, if these people honestly believe in a God that would do this, why the fuck would they worship him in the first place? It seems to me that a God who would do what these idiots describe is not deserving of worship. Assholes.

Yeah, I almost put that in the post too, but then figured it was just assumed.

Because they don't believe he'll do it to them.

Why not? I'm sure they all live in wicked cities too, by their definition.

Yeah, but they're believers, so they think they'll be OK.

And yes, I agree that it's absurd, seeing as how Christians surely died in the hurricane and flooding, but I'm just taking a shot at the mindset.

I am a Christian & I don't understand why they're saying that they know why this happened. It isn't possible for us, as humans, to give the reason why this happened... Man's thoughts are not God's thoughts & man's ways are not God's ways:

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. - Isaiah 55:8

The reason behind it may never be revealed to us, simply because it isn't our place to know. It happened because God is Sovereign & it was His will.

...according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will - Ephesians 1:11
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. - 1 Thessalonians 5:18

John, the reason we worship Jesus Christ & God the Father is because of what God did for us. He gave his only Son for the remission of sin & for the salvation of the world. Jesus Christ was obedient to the will of His Father, obedient even to the point of death... Because of his love for us, He took the wrath of God upon Himself, so that we may be saved from that wrath.

Here's a story that acts as another means of explanation to unbelievers of our belief:
There was a tribe of natives in the wilderness who kept having chickens stolen during the night. The closest neighboring tribe was well over 100 miles away, so the chief knew that the perpetrator was from within. Thinking that his tribe had some sense of honor, he said that if the thief would come forward, it would all be forgotten. No one would come forward, so he announced that they'd get 20 lashes when found out. Each day he upped the punishment by 20, to 40, 60, 80 & then 100, knowing that 100 would surely kill the thief. Later that night, he heard a noise outside & he went to investigate. He found his own mother stealing the chickens. The next day he gathered the tribe for the public punishment, because he knew that if he didn't stick to his word, he would have no credibility & would no longer be able to serve as their leader. Before the punishment began, he handed the whip to another & laid himself on top of his mother. He took all 100 lashes & then breathed his last.

He loved his mother so much that he gave his life for her. That is what Jesus Christ did for us. He loves us unconditionally, & he gave his life for us.

The "Judge not..." verse (Luke 6:37) gets misused/misunderstood a lot. It is telling us to not make harsh or overly-critical judgments of others, similar to what the Pharisees did. We are still supposed to make moral judgments & hold others accountable.

Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment. - John 7:24

Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?" - John 18:23
+ The Lord is holding the soldier/officer accountable for his actions & telling him to 'bear witness of the evil' if it had been done (moral/righteous judgment)

Exactly... "he who has not sinned cast the first stone"... That means that no one can cast any stones since all are sinners (except Jesus Christ - the sinless Savior).

I don't see what contradiction you're talking about. Nothing that was said here is a contradiction. Contradictions come from people's interpretations of the Word. The Word of God cannot and does not contradict itself.
